BASICS:
RESIN ART in basic words is combination of two chemicals also known as Resin and Hardener in ratios for aesthetic purposes. It is a form of art and craft mainly constitute of resin chemical and hardener which is used to solidify the resin. both of them are poured in fixed ratios. It can be either 1:1,2:1,3:1. Every ratio plays a different type of role and resin is done in two forms which are “CASTING And COATING”.
Casting in Resin Art is commonly referred to as pouring over plastic or silicone moulds to observe different effects on both the sides. There are a variety of silicone moulds available in the market which assures symmetric designs as it a liquid moulds avoid any sort of discrepancies and act as a blessing in disguise.
Casting is usually done with 3:1 ratio which means thrice the ratio of resin and one the ratio of hardener. The other reason for doing so is to make sure the chemical does not harm silicon moulds.
For casting the different shapes available in the market are circle, rectangle, cloud, alphabets and much more . It can be utilised for the purpose of gifting, pooja thali, keychains, bookmarks and much more.
Coating in Resin Art, when I say coating it means covering the surface with resin . As the name suggests, coating is done on all surfaces other than silicone and plastic because as we know that resin is a chemical.
So it is resistant to plastic as well as silicone and does not stick on it. Coating is done with either 2:1 or 1:1 ratio. 2:1 means twice the amount of resin, a single amount of hardener is used as we are coating so we need more hardener as compared to 3:1 ratio.
We can also use 1:1 in coating as it is more thicker in consistency as compared to the other two ratios. Using coating we can make 3D DIY clocks, spaces and creativity for various purposes.
PRECAUTIONS :
Creation is fun but resin art involves a huge amount of risk because it is purely made up of chemicals. So, precautionary measures are a necessity. So to ensure safety , following measures are a must:
1) Wearing Respiratory Masks is a must as it leads to the inhalation of harmful gases which can be disastrous.
2) Hand Gloves as we all know it is a chemical and it is sticky in nature . So it can also lead to our consumption indirectly or directly.
3) Monsoon and Resin are not best of friends as resin takes more time than usual in monsoon and sometimes it does not even cure and gets wasted.
4) Wear APRONS to avoid clothes malfunction as once and also ensure to have a plastic cover to work.

HOW TO USE ALL OF IT??
So, the quick method for beginners for resin art is such that you need to gather all the essential stuff , then for casting I am making pooja thali . In that case you need a circular mould. let’s get started .
As we are casting, we will be using a 3:1 ratio , which means thrice the resin of hardener and we will measure by using a weighing scale.
FAQS) CAN SAME RATIO OF RESIN AND HARDENER BE USED FOR BOTH CASTING AND COATING?
ANS) For beginners yes, as resin art is the beginning or if it is pursued for hobby purpose we can use same ratio because as we know it is expensive and to ensure budget friendly experience. We can use that but in long run it is necessary to avoid it as it can damage your silicone moulds.
Afterwards, we will divide the resin in two different bowls after mixing it. Decide two coordinated colours and mix the pigment in the resin mixture.
Now pour the resin in two different directions and now wait for 24-48 hours to let it cure.
Same way coating is done on the mdf surface make sure you use the correct measurement according to the prescribed ratio and cover its side with a tape to ensure clean sides and follow all the necessary precautions and your art piece is ready.
